City of Shadows – an espionage game

Portugal remained neutral in the 2nd WW and Lisbon became a rendez-vous spot for spies, taking advantage of the city’s strategic Atlantic connections, quickly turning into a true “nest of spies” as mentioned in several period chronicles. The “plane to Lisbon”, as an escape route in the movie Casablanca, remains one of the best known examples. The Portuguese regime faces several crisis, because of the Azorean islands, with Spain and over the tungsten that test the Portuguese neutrality.

Inside the city both the Allies and the Axis kept impressive diplomatic services: probably the only place in war-torn Europe where all sides were able to meet on equal grounds.

Besides all these stories that make this period son interesting for Lisbon’s History, we offer you a game in the streets of Lisbon where you will also find the refugees and famous exiled, amongst riddles and clues to unveil.

The October sun was warm in Lisbon. The Tagus sparkled. I felt alive again.
