Sintra is known as Portugal’s most romantic town, preserving some of the country’s most beautiful palaces and landscapes in a unique, exotic setting.

Called the “Mountain of the Moon” since ancient times, Sintra gradually evolved from a strategic defensive town during the Moorish period into an aristocratic summer retreat. Its history, and its stories – some more mythical than others – make for a pleasant and naturally magical walk through the town centre.

This tour covers the town centre only and does not include entry to palaces or monuments. If you wish, we can add a visit to the National Palace – just let us know when you book.

Two ways to visit

  • Full day with hotel pick-up: private transfer with driver from your hotel in Lisbon.
  • By train (more affordable): meet your guide at Sintra station, or at Rossio station in Lisbon and travel together by train. Usually a half day, but it can also be a full day.

What you’ll see

  • Old Sintra, the town of the magic mountain
  • The Moorish Fountain
  • Sintra National Palace (outside)
  • The town centre
  • Quinta da Regaleira (outside)
  • Seteais Palace
