Booking and payment
What is the difference between a regular and a private tour?
Regular tours are in English, in a small group (up to about 16 people), on fixed days and times – see the schedule. Private tours are just for your group, on the day and time you choose.
Do I need to book?
Yes. For regular tours we recommend booking ahead, as places are limited. Private tours are booked on request.
How do I pay?
Online, by card, when you book.
Are there group rates?
Yes, for schools, travel agencies and hotels. Email us at info@lisbonwalker.com.
Can I cancel?
Regular tours: up to 48 hours before the start, full refund; after that there is no refund, but you can reschedule once. Private tours: 72 hours or more, full refund; between 72 and 24 hours, 50%; less than 24 hours, no refund (unless your proposal says otherwise). To cancel, use the link in your confirmation email or contact us. Full details in our Terms and Conditions.
On the day
Where do we meet?
Praça do Comércio, at the door of the Ask Me Lisboa tourist office, under the arcades, next to Cervejaria Antártida. Your guide carries an orange Lisbon Walker backpack. For private tours, we agree the meeting point with you.
How long is a tour?
About 3 hours, on foot and at an easy pace. Lisbon City of Spies takes 2½ hours and Sensory Lisbon about 2 hours.
Which languages?
Regular tours are in English. Private tours can be in English, Portuguese or French.
Can I bring children?
Yes, and children up to 12 go free. Pushchairs are hard work in Alfama, with its steep streets and stairs.
Do I need to be fit?
No. Our tours are not tiring. Lisbon Old Town – Alfama & Mouraria is a little more demanding, with some climbs and stairs.
Are there breaks?
Yes, in shady spots with somewhere to sit.
How do I prove my discount?
We don’t ask for ID for age discounts. For the Rick Steves discount, just show the book to your guide.
Are there days with no tours?
There are no tours on 24, 25 and 31 December or 1 January.
Curious questions
Is the Legends & Mysteries tour scary?
No. It is a walk through the city’s curious legends and secrets – no dark tunnels, no jump scares.
Does Lisbon really have seven hills?
The idea of the seven hills dates from the 17th century and Friar Nicolau de Oliveira. In fact, Lisbon’s landscape is rather different – find out why on one of our tours.
