The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon

With the plot set in the persecutions to Sefardic Jews of the 15th and 16th centuries, Richard Zimler wrote a rich and misterious Historic Novel, that will guide you through King Manuel the 1st Lisbon. From the big squares of Rossio and the Paço da Ribeira,  to the alleys of Alfama, where you will rediscover this novel and its Lisbon routes, trying to solve the mysterious murder presented in the beginning of the story.

Taking place during the Pessah, Jewish Easter, we relive this novel in the footsteps of Berequias Zarco, the leading figure, in the streets of a Medieval Lisbon that still exists today.

In this walk we will take you to several places mentioned in the novel, such as:

  • The Ribeira Palace
  • The Horses Fountain
  • The big Jewish Quarter, little Jerusalem
  • The Jewish quarter of Alfama
  • The merchant’s new street
  • The all saints Royal Hospital
  • The S. Domingo’s Church
  • The Rossio
